Frequently Asked Questions
What is the superannuation rate in Australia for 2025-26?
The Superannuation Guarantee rate is 12% from 1 July 2025. This is the final scheduled increase — it was 11.5% in 2024-25 and will stay at 12% going forward.
Is superannuation taxed?
Employer contributions (concessional contributions) are taxed at 15% inside the super fund — much lower than the marginal income tax rates. Investment earnings inside super are also taxed at a maximum of 15%.
What is Payday Super?
From 1 July 2026, employers must pay superannuation with every pay run (payday super), with contributions reaching the fund within 7 business days. Previously, super was paid quarterly. This change helps super accumulate faster due to earlier compounding.
What is the concessional contributions cap?
The concessional (pre-tax) contributions cap for 2025-26 is $30,000 per year. This includes employer contributions and any salary sacrifice amounts. Contributions above the cap are taxed at your marginal rate.
